Review and Question Making

Today in class we had a review for our test tomorrow. Mr. Schick asked up to come up with three different questions that either will be put on the test or just general information that we should know. He gave us ten minutes to look over our notes and form questions, that aren't too basic, but aren't to difficult and precise. The following information is the things that Mr. Schick advised us to study and know.

  • Who proposed a worldwide system of time zones in 1879?
    • Sir Sanford Fleming
  • What does GPS stand for?
    • Global Positioning System
  • Need to know specific information about place and region
  • What is the science and art of map making called?
    • Cartography
  • How many degrees latitude is the equator?
    • zero degrees latitude
  • What is the difference between a mercator map and a peters map?
    • Mercator map is the original map which most people are familiar with however it does not have correct proportions. For example, Greenland is certainly not the size of Africa.
    • Peters map is the more accurate map, and has its proportions correct.
  • What is globalization?
    • Globalization is a force or process that involves the entire world and results in making something worldwide in scope.
  • Give examples about thinking globally and acting locally
    • to help reduce air pollution put out by cars you could ride your bike to places that are close, if a large amount of people do this then it could make a difference
  • What is a geographic coordinate system?
These are just some of the things he told us to review. I already made a quizlet to study off of to make sure I keep my good grade in his class.
