crash course continued

Today in class we continued to watch the video, and only got in 2 more minutes. Here are the notes that I took:

  • How will I ever know that I am wrong? 
  • Can I ever be certain about anything? 
  • Is there any reason I should treat strangers differently from the people I love?
Then, Mr. Schick told the class a story. It was about how he invited a homeless person to come and have lunch with him. And they had a conversation. Mr. Schick asked what happened, and why he can't have a job, but then he offered to buy him a bus ticket to go and see his sister so he can get back to health. However, the man did not take the offer because he was too embarrassed to go back and have his sister see him like this. This story made me almost cry, I was really close to it. It made me really happy what Mr. Schick did, there needs to be more people like him in this world!

In class today we finished up with the rest of the world leaders and their background stories. First, we finished Syria. We learned that Bashar al-Assad does not like his own people and he has ordered a plethora of crackdowns and military sieges on protestors. What started this for him was that his brother was killed in a car crash, and Bashar's brother was supposed to take their father's reign not Bashar. Next we went more in depth with Canada and their Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. They have a federal parliamentary democracy, and constitutional monarchy. Justin as a high-schooler defended Canadian Federalism. Also, after his brother died during a ski trip he started a campaign to support safety in winter sports. He also defended Native American rights and he openly welcomed refugees from Syria to become Canadians. Next we discussed Israel. World Leaders information

Today in class we went into greater detail about all the world leaders that we had to research and create a powerpoint about. Mr. Schick was presenting his powerpoint, which had more information than ours did. His went into greater detail about the leader and their back story. First we started with Mexico. Their leader is President Enrique Pena Nieto, and they have a federal presidential republic. His approval ratings are very low and he is suspected to have killed his wife, but gets away with it. Next was China. Their leader is Xi Jinping, and they have a communist type of government. He is married to a folk singer, and he is the son of the founding fathers of the Communist party. Also, his daughter went to college at Harvard. The next country that we took notes on was India. They have . federal parliamentary type of government and their leader is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Today in class, Val took her test, so of course for the rest of us its notes day...Yay my favorite, sike...Anyways, I only got through the first section but that is still 2 and a half pages of notes for me!
