today in class we finished our outline.



Philosophy and Art
·      Epicureanism and Stoicism: two schools founded from Greeks.
o   Stoicism: Greek philosopher named Zeno founded the school of philosophy and believed that people should live in harmony with the will of god or the natural laws that God established to run the universe. They also preached that human desires, power and wealth were dangerous distractions. This promoted unity and encouraged followers to focus on what they could control.
o   Epicureanism: Epicurus founded the school of thought. He taught that gods who didn’t have interest in humans ruled the universe. Believed that real objects were those that the five senses perceived. He taught that the greatest good and the highest pleasure came from virtuous conduct and the absence of pain. The main goals of humans was to achieve harmony of the body and mind.
·      Sculptures:
o   Colossus of Rhodes: a bronze statue, that is more than 100 feet high, and one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.
o   150 BC the Hellenistic world was in decline, Rome was growing and gaining strength.

In class today we finished up with the rest of the world leaders and their background stories. First, we finished Syria. We learned that Bashar al-Assad does not like his own people and he has ordered a plethora of crackdowns and military sieges on protestors. What started this for him was that his brother was killed in a car crash, and Bashar's brother was supposed to take their father's reign not Bashar. Next we went more in depth with Canada and their Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. They have a federal parliamentary democracy, and constitutional monarchy. Justin as a high-schooler defended Canadian Federalism. Also, after his brother died during a ski trip he started a campaign to support safety in winter sports. World Leaders information

Today in class we went into greater detail about all the world leaders that we had to research and create a powerpoint about. Mr. Schick was presenting his powerpoint, which had more information than ours did. His went into greater detail about the leader and their back story. First we started with Mexico. Their leader is President Enrique Pena Nieto, and they have a federal presidential republic. His approval ratings are very low and he is suspected to have killed his wife, but gets away with it. Next was China. Their leader is Xi Jinping, and they have a communist type of government. He is married to a folk singer, and he is the son of the founding fathers of the Communist party. Today in class, Val took her test, so of course for the rest of us its notes day...Yay my favorite, sike...Anyways, I only got through the first section but that is still 2 and a half pages of notes for me!
