day after test notes on the rise of christianity
Today in class, Val took her test, so of course for the rest of us its notes day...Yay my favorite, sike...Anyways, I only got through the first section but that is still 2 and a half pages of notes for me! So below is everything that I thought was important and that I thought I should write down.

- he stressed over the importances of people's love for everyone and everything
- most information about him is in the Gospels
- he had 12 apostles
- preached from town to town
- "blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth"
- his popularity concerned Roman and Jewish leaders
- Roman governor--- Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of defying authority of Rome
- got nailed to a wooden cross and died
Christianity spreads through the Empire
- followers of Jesus still spread his beliefs
- the Apostle Paul had a great influence of Christianity
- he was an enemy of Christianity at first, then had visions of Jesus
- spent the rest of his life spreading his beliefs and faith
- told people that this faith was for everyone
- AD 66 Jews rebelled
- AD 70 Romans destroyed the Jewish Temple
- Diaspora- the dispersal of the Jews
- Christians refused to worship Roman gods
- Second century Pax Romana crumbled due to the persecution of the Christians
- Martyrs- people willing to sacrifice their lives for the sake of a belief or a cause
A world religion
- Christianity became a very powerful force
- Many people liked Christianity because:
- embraced all
- gave hope to the powerless
- appealed those who were repelled
- offered a person relationship with God
- promised eternal life after death
- 312 AD-- Constantine was fighting three rivals for leadership in Rome
- Milvian Bridge
- prayed for divine help
- won the battle and gave credit to Jesus
- 313 AD-- Constantine ended Christians being persecuted
- In edict of Milan, he said Christianity was an allowed and approved religion
- they had priests, bishops, popes, and small churches
- Peter was the first bishop and the first pope
- disputes over beliefs became intense
- Church leaders tried to set a single, official standard of belief
- Church leaders and Constantine wrote the Nicene Creed which was the basic beliefs of the Church
