Alexander the Great Notes

Today in class Mr. Schick told us take notes on pages 142-145 in our textbook. So that is exactly what I did. The following information are the things that I thought were important while I was reading.

  • Philip is the King of Macedonia and he builds up their power 
    • located North of Greece 
    • had rough terrain and a very cold climate 
    • the Macedonians thought of themselves as Greeks 
      • Greeks looked down on the Macedonians because they had no great philosophers 
    • they did have shrewd and fearless kinds 
  • Philips army 
    • 359 Philip became king 
    • he was brilliant and ruthless
    • he made peasants into an army
      • transformed their community 
    • created the strongest phalanxes ever 
  • Conquest of Greece 
    • Demothene was a professional public speaker 
      • tried to warn Greece and Philip and his army 
    • Athens and Thebes joined to fight 
    • Greece was defeated at the battle of Chaeronea 
      • this defeat ended Greek independence 
  • Philip never got the chance to invade Persia because he was stabbed to death at his daughter's wedding 
    • his son Alexander immediately was crowned King 
  • Alexander the Great 
    • 20 years old when he was crowned king 
    • under Aristotle's teachings he learned al ot 
    • had great military training 
    • Greeks city states gave up on trying to rebel 
  • Invasion of Persia
    • He wanted to finish what his father started 
    • in 334 bc he led 35,00 soldiers to Persia 
    • they met at Granicus River 
      • Alexander made the first move and won
  • Conquering the Persian Empire 
    • Darius wanted a treaty 
      • alex rejected the offer and began war 
      • won

New Uniforms and Politically Grouped States

Today in class we discussed for a long time about PSAT's. Mr. Schick was telling us how his daughter had difficulty trying to accomplish this test on her own. I took it into consideration when he said that his daughter got help and her score on this test started to improve. This test is on your own knowledge but that doesn't mean that you can't use other people's knowledge to help you be successful. His daughter got a tutor specifically for the SAT's and her scores began to increase. I thought about this and how it helped her, instead of doing it all solo. Then from that conversation somehow our uniforms got brought up. Then Mr. Schick told us that he thinks we should wear flight suits and how much more convenient they would be instead of uniforms. tomorrow we have a test i guess

Today in class we took a lot of notes, and now we have a test tomorrow. Just wonderful. The following information is the notes that we took during class. Here is what I got: Caesar Reforms:  -Granted citizenship to people in provinces -expanded the senate and added his friends -created jobs for the poor, especially the republic work projects -increase pay for soldiers  -started colonies were those without land could own property  Assassination:  -Why? missed class but still got the notes

Today in class, well honestly I don't know what happened because I wasn't there because I had left for a lacrosse game.
