Regions and the Cultural Landscape

Today in class we talked about regions and cultural landscape. This is a sense of place that humans possess that may apply to a larger area of earth rather than just a specific place on earth. The definition of a region is an area of Earth defined by one or more distinctive characteristics. There are a few different types of regions. First, it can range from a small point on earth to being very big. Second, several neighboring countries that share important features are classified as regions. This means that places near each other have more things in common with each other than places across the globe from each other. Also, there are many localities within a country. Next, we went over the defintion of cultural landscape. Cultural landscape means a combination of both physical and human characteristics that uniquely define places and areas. Another definition for this is an area fashioned from nature by a cultural group. Next, we went over some maps that included the votes for republican and democrats by states and how some change and how others stay the same.
