First day of Western Civ

Today was our first day in the second semester. Which also means the first day in Western Civilization. I walked into Mr. Schick's class with everyone else and two new people in the class! He went over his policies for the new kids and how we have blogs that we need to post to every time that we have class. Then after that he talked about the large textbooks that were on our desks. I was very happy that he said that we were allowed to leave those books in class, so we didn't have to carry them back an forth everyday. Then he told us to read and take notes on some pages. Here is the information that I gathered: Athens formed a democracy  Alexander (the great Greek) spread Greek culture throughout Asia 1200 BC was the start of the Trojan War  Greece was not a united country, it was a collection of many separate islands  Minoans created an elegant civilization  Consisted mainly of mountains and a peninsula jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea 2,000 islands  The sea sha

World Leaders Test

Today in class we had a test on the world leaders that we have been learning about all week and made a project on. Last night, when I began to study for this test I got very stressed out because I thought that I had to know every single government type. As in, I thought we had to memorize the different types of governments that each country has. Anyways, good thing that I didn't study that because it wasn't even on the test. I thought that this test was so easy and it was really just the basics about every country, and their leaders. I was really happy that I took the notes that I took in class and I payed attention in class because I felt very prepared for this test. Honestly, I thought that this was the easiest test so far, even though I was confused on one or two of the questions I am satisfied with the effort I put in.

World Leaders Information continued

In class today we finished up with the rest of the world leaders and their background stories. First, we finished Syria. We learned that Bashar al-Assad does not like his own people and he has ordered a plethora of crackdowns and military sieges on protestors. What started this for him was that his brother was killed in a car crash, and Bashar's brother was supposed to take their father's reign not Bashar. Next we went more in depth with Canada and their Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. They have a federal parliamentary democracy, and constitutional monarchy. Justin as a high-schooler defended Canadian Federalism. Also, after his brother died during a ski trip he started a campaign to support safety in winter sports. He also defended Native American rights and he openly welcomed refugees from Syria to become Canadians. Next we discussed Israel. We learned that they have a parliamentary democracy, and their President is Rivlin, and their Prime Minister is Netanyahu. I learned that

World Leaders information

Today in class we went into greater detail about all the world leaders that we had to research and create a powerpoint about. Mr. Schick was presenting his powerpoint, which had more information than ours did. His went into greater detail about the leader and their back story. First we started with Mexico. Their leader is President Enrique Pena Nieto, and they have a federal presidential republic. His approval ratings are very low and he is suspected to have killed his wife, but gets away with it. Next was China. Their leader is Xi Jinping, and they have a communist type of government. He is married to a folk singer, and he is the son of the founding fathers of the Communist party. Also, his daughter went to college at Harvard. The next country that we took notes on was India. They have . federal parliamentary type of government and their leader is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He is a keen debater and was a member of the OBC, which is socially and educationally backwards. This means t

first day back

Today was our first day back in school. The best way to describe it was freezing, or even miserable. The school is a solid 50 degrees according to Mr. Schick's thermometer...50 degrees! All the girls are in skirts, without leggings because we thought school was going to be hot, not freezing!!! But luckily, with Mr. Schick's kind soul, he let the girls put their sweatpants on. That was greatly appreciated. So we began class, and out new unit called, Political Geography. As we began to go over this we looked at the way that the world is organized. It goes; country, nation, and then State. We went into detail over each of these. Then of course we had a long discussion over the defintion of a Country. That most definitely took up most of the class. We got went in many different directions with this conversation, and then of course...It's KELS birthday!!!!! So we sang happy birthday and then we left!
